Union Government recognizes Yoga as Sports discipline

On 1 September 2015, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports decided to recognize yoga as a sports discipline and put it in the priority category.


Kerala Temple won the UNESCO Award 2015

India has won the top UNESCO ‘Award of Excellence’ 2015 for Sree Vadakkunnathan Temple in Kerala. The award recognises the remarkable conservation effort undertaken at the sacred site which employed age-old rituals and conservation techniques drawn from Vastu Sastra focusing on architecture and construction. Xieng Thong Temple of Thailand received the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award.


India win Test Series with Sri Lanka

India on 1 September win the Test Series with Sri Lanka. After 22 years India won the series in Sri Lanka. This is the second time for India to won the series with Sri Lanka. In 1993 at the time of Md. Azharuddin India defeated Sri Lanka for the first time. In this test series the pacer Ishant Sharma created a record by taking eight wickets in the series. The captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli won the top rank in ICC T20 rankings with 861 rating points.


Sanjeev chaturvedi and Anshu Gupta received the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2015

Indian Forest Officer Sanjeev Chturvedi and founder of NGO Goonj Anshu Gupta are the two Indians selected for the most prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for the year 2015. They conferred the award on 31 August at the cultural centre in Philippines. Anshu Gupta left his corporate job and started Goonj in 1999. The award winners got the ceretificate, gold medal and cash prize from the Philippines President Benigno Aquino III.
