PM Narendra Modi, Ghani Inaugurates Afghan-India Friendship Dam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on 4 June inaugurated a landmark dam built by India in Herat province. The Afghan-India Friendship Dam, earlier known as Salma Dam, on river Chist-e-Sharif in western Herat, will irrigate 75,000-hectare land and generate 42-Mw power. At the inaugural function, Afghan President conferred the the highest civilian honour of Afghanistan, the Amir Amanullah Khan Award on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


Assam Assembly Passes Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2006

Assam Assembly on 4 June passed the Assam Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2016. The legislation will facilitate the enterprises with a view to attract fresh investment in the state through an easy computerised clearance system. The bill has the provision for speedy processing of applications and issue of clearances for setting up industries. The basic aim of the bill is to create an investment-friendly environment for economic development of the state. The bill provides for establishing a bureau under the name of Assam Bureau of Investment Promotion for the purpose of overall supervision and administration of the speedy processing of applications and issue of various clearances.


PM Narendra Modi Conferred Afghanistan’s Highest Civilian Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on 4 June conferred with Amir Amanullah Khan Award, the highest civilian honour of Afghanistan. The award was bestowed upon him at the inaugural function of the Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. The award is named after Afghan national hero Amanullah Khan who championed the cause of Afghanistan’s freedom.


Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali Died

American boxing icon Muhammad Ali died in the Phoenix, Arizona, after a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 74. He was former three times world heavyweight champion (1964, 1974 and 1978) who had record-setting boxing career, which had made him one of the best-known figures of the 20th century. He was also known globally for his civil rights activism. He was born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. on 17 January 1942.• He also wrote several best-selling books about his career, including The Greatest: My Own Story and The Soul of a Butterfly. He won the world heavyweight championship in 1964 at the age of 22. He converted to Sunni Islam in 1975 and changed his name to Muhammad Ali and 30 years later He began adhering to Sufism. Ali remains the only three-time lineal world heavyweight champion; he won the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978.
