Mother Teresa is being declared saint by Pope Francis in Vatican City

Pope Francis has declared revered nun Mother Teresa a saint in a canonization mass at St Peter’s square. The canonization comes on the eve of her 19th death anniversary. A 12-member central delegation led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and two state government-level delegations from Delhi and West Bengal, led by Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee had attended the ceremony.


G-20 Summit 2016 started in Chinese city of Hangzhou

Two-day G-20 Summit of the world’s major economies has started in the Chinese city of Hangzhou to discuss efforts to reform global economic governance. The theme of the summit is toward an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy.


Indian scientists unlock preterm birth mystery

“Indian researchers have made a major discovery by understanding the mechanisms by which preterm births (between 28 and 32 weeks of gestation) occur. Normally, a pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, but in case of preterm births has gestation between 28 and 32 weeks. India with 35% accounts for the highest burden of preterm births in the world.
For the first, Indian researchers have found that gram-positive Group B Streptococcus (GBS) bacteria that produce small balloons called membrane vesicles. These small balloons contain toxins that kill both foetal and maternal cells and destroy the collagen that binds the cells together. The GBS bacteria normally are found in human vagina and their numbers can shoot up in some pregnant women. They are associated with premature rupture of amniotic membrane and preterm birth.”


World’s largest LEGO ship sets Guinness record

A new Guinness world record for the largest LEGO ship has been set in Denmark, where employees of a shipping company successfully constructed the incredible 2,860 kg boat using over one million interlocking plastic bricks. The blue and white LEGO boat measures 12.035 metres in length. It took 900 person hours to build and thousands of DFDS employees from across the world got on board, assisted in the challenge by a few LEGO building professionals.


Abhinav Bindra announces retirement from Shooting

Abhinav Bindra, India’s lone individual Olympic gold medallist, has officially announced his retirement from shooting. He announced his retirement after playing for almost two decades. In Rio Olympics 2016, Bindra nearly missed a second Olympic medal by a whisker and came fourth. Presently, he is the Chairman of a review committee formulated by the NRAI to examine and identify in a cold and ruthless manner the reason as to why shooting failed to secure any medal at Rio Olympic Games. He is the first Indian to win an individual Gold medal in Olympic since 1900 the year our country participated in the Olympic Games.
