Govt to open Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Kendra in every LS constituency

The Centre has decided to open Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Kendra in every Parliamentary Constituency to impart skill training to the people and make them employable. According to Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy, through these centres, a standard will be created to enhance the skill level of trainees so that they could earn more money.


 Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000 notes no longer legal tender

The Union Government has announced that Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000 notes will cease to be legal tender. It was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a surprise address to nation. The demonetisation drive of these two currency units was taken to root out the menace of black money, corruption and fake currency from the country. The currency notes of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 rupee will remain unaffected by this decision and remain legal tender. Persons holding old 500, Rs. 1,000 notes must deposit these notes in their bank or post office accounts from 10th November till 30th December 2016 without any limit. Those who are not able to deposit 30th December 2016 can go to the specified offices of RBI up to 31st March 2017 and deposit the notes after submitting a declaration form. However, for immediate needs, old 500, Rs. 1,000 notes can be exchanged in any bank, head post office or sub post office by showing identity proof like Aadhaar card, voter card, ration card, passport, PAN card or other approved proofs. The limit for such exchange will be four thousand rupees till 24th November, and will increase from 25th November till 30th December 2016. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue new 500 and Rs. 2,000 notes from 10 November 2016. There will no restrictions of any kind on non-cash payments by cheques, demand drafts, debit or credit cards and electronic fund transfer.


Amitav Ghosh to Be Honored With Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award

Acclaimed Indian American fiction author Amitav Ghosh, 60, has been named for 2016 Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Indian literary space.The award will be presented to him at the upcoming Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest’s annual awards ceremony scheduled for Nov. 20.


Union Government appoints Praveen Kumar Sharma as CR, MD & CEO of CERSAI

The Union Government has appointed Praveen Kumar Sharma as the Central Registrar (CR), Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India (CERSAI). He was appointed by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) for the tenure of three years. Prior to this appointment he was Sharma General Manager at State Bank of India (SBI).CERSAI is a central online security interest registry of India. It is a Government company licensed under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. Its headquarters is in New Delhi.


Corp Bank inks pact with Indian Army

Corporation Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army on the defence salary package. Corporation Bank would provide free/ concessional services to the Army under the MoU. The services include free drafts, cheque books, funds transfers to any bank in India through RTGS/ NEFT, free ATM cards, unlimited transactions on all ATMs, including that of other banks.


Asian Development Bank $48 million loan to help Assam improve power distribution

This is the second tranche loan of the USD 300 million multi-tranche financing facility for the Assam Power Sector Investment Programme that was approved by the ADB Board in July 2014.The project will help Assam to enhance capacity and efficiency of its power distribution system to improve electricity service to end user.
