MC Mary Kom wins Gold in 48 kg category in Asian Boxing Championship

Indian boxer MC Mary Kom on 8 November 2017 won the Gold Medal at the Asian Boxing Championship 2017 in 48 kg category. Mary Kom defeated North Korea’s Hyang Mi Kim by 5-0 in the 48 kg category of the Asian Women’s Boxing Championship. This was her fifth gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championship. In her entire boxing career, till now, Mary has won four gold and a silver in the Asian Boxing Championship.


HDFC Bank makes RTGS, NEFT online transactions free

HDFC Bank Limited made online transactions through RTGS and NEFT free of cost from with an aim to promote a digital economy. For a customer can avail one chequebook of 25 leaves free, only once in a year. If a cheque is returned due to insufficient funds, each such cheque will attract a penalty of Rs 500. In cases where cheques deposited are returned unpaid, the charge has been raised to Rs 200 per instance.


Chennai included in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network for contribution in Music

64 cities from 44 countries have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General, Irina Bokova. Chennai is the third Indian city on the list of UNESCO Creative Cities list after Jaipur and Varanasi. After this, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network now counts a total of 180 cities in 72 countries. Few famous cities included in the list are- Auckland (New Zealand), Cairo (Egypt), Cape Town (South Africa), Istanbul (Turkey), Yamagata City (Japan).


The 20th International Children’s Film Festival begins in India

International Children’s Film Festival (ICFFI), popularly known as the Golden Elephant began in Hyderabad, Telangana on 8 November 2017. The festival would conclude on the occasion of Children’s Day on 14 November. Ola inks partnership with Microsoft for enhanced passenger experience

The transportation network company Ola announced its strategic partnership with Microsoft company and thereby choosing the Microsoft as its preferred cloud provider. Ola Play customers will be able to use productivity tools such as Office 365 and Skype for Business, as well as voice-assisted controls built using Microsoft Cognitive Services and bot framework, in-car during their rides. It helps transform the car into a high-performing, intelligent vehicle, capable of assessing fuel efficiency, engine performance, and driver performance.


Twitter officially expands its Character Count from 140 to 280

Twitter has officially increased the number of characters in tweets from 140 to 280 for the majority of users. The new limit will not apply to tweets written in Japanese, Chinese and Korean which can convey more information in a single character. It was called microblogging site because of its lesser character limit. The move follows a trial among a small group of users which started in September in response to criticism that it was not easy enough to tweet. The change is part of Twitter’s plan to attract new users and increase growth.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani flagged off Digital Rath in New Delhi to create awareness among people for the cashless transaction. UPI transactions have increased from 3.8 million in April to 77 million in October this year, which is a huge growth. The travel is around 20 thousand kilo-meter and will reach 10 lakh people.


NASA: Ozone hole over Antarctica smallest in 30 years

The ozone hole that forms over Antarctica every year in September was found to be the smallest this year since 1988. this was revealed by the NASA satellite measurements from 2017. According to NASA scientists, the hole in the ozone layer reached its peak extent on September 11, covering an area about two and a half times the size of the US – and then it declined through the remaining part of September. The ground- and balloon-based measurements from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) also showed the least amount of ozone depletion above the continent during the peak of the ozone depletion cycle since 1988.


India slips to 7th position in business optimism ranking

As per Grant Thornton’s International Business Report (IBR), India has slipped in ‘business optimism’ index to the 7th position in the September quarter, from the 2nd slot in the previous three months, showing clear signs of lag in the economy. Indonesia is at the top of the list, followed by Finland and the Netherlands.

Prince of Wales Charles arrives India on 2-day visit

Prince of Wales, Charles Philip Arthur George arrived in New Delhi on a 2-day visit to India. This visit is a part of their 10 day tour to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and India. This visit will be the 9th visit of the Prince of Wales to India. The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
