ONGC to roll out new ‘basin’ in Agartala by 2017

State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will set up a new ‘basin’ in Agartala by the end of 2017 to explore more oil and gas in the North-East region. ONGC’s North East operations are divided into two areas—Assam Fold Belt from Silchar to Agartala and Assam Shelf from Jorhat to Duliajan.


Madhya Pradesh launches Narmada Seva Yatra

Madhya Pradesh Government has launched five months long Narmada Seva Yatra to turn the Narmada river pollution free. It was launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Amarkantak. The Narmada Sewa Yatra aims to create awareness about the conservation of the river. It is one of the biggest public campaign of the world to conserve river and environment.

Andhra Pradesh Government launched website of state Economic Development Board (AP-EDB). It aims at providing a repository of knowledge on investing in Andhra Pradesh, policies of various sectors and give investors various investment opportunities offered by state.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has been has been awarded Officer of the Legion of Honour, the highest French civilian distinction for his contribution in peace effort.


3 Indian origin teenagers bag $1 lakh US scholarship

Three Indian-origin teenagers have won scholarship worth $ 1 lakh for their innovative research in 17th annual Siemens Math, Science and Technology Competition. Identical twin sisters Shriya and Adhya won the competition for their project on Novel Approach to Schizophrenia Diagnosis. Vineet Edupuganti, won the top individual award for developing an ingestible battery.


December 10: Human Rights Day

The Human Rights Day is observed annually on 10th December to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Observance of the day seeks to encourage, support and amplify measures to be taken by everyone to defend human rights. 2016 Theme or campaign: “Stand up for someone’s rights today”. It aims to re-emphasise how important it is to live in peace and harmony, compassion and concern for each other’s rights with respect towards the idea of mutual co-existence. In run up to the celebration of Human Rights Day, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had organised a series of events.
