Jaitley launches data bank portal of MSMEs

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has launched a data bank Portal of micro, small and medium enterprises, MSME in New Delhi. The portal aims to gather information about micro, small and medium enterprises. An Online Finance Facilitation Web Portal was also launched to provide collective funding options for MSMEs. Secretary in the MSME Ministry K K Jalan said, six Online Finance Facilitation Centres in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Guwahati, Lucknow, Peenya near Bengaluru and Delhi have been opened today and six more will be unveiled in the near future.


Microsoft appoints Sriram Rajamani as MD of its India lab

Microsoft has announced the appointment of Sriram Rajamani as new managing director of its India lab. Based in Bengaluru, he will spearhead Microsoft India’s continued focus on world-class research, innovation and collaboration with the scientific community. He will replace Chandu Thekkath, who was the managing director of the lab for two years.


Rajya Sabha passes Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Bill, 2016

The Rajya Sabha has passed the Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to raise maternity leave for working women from 12 weeks to 26 weeks for two surviving children. The Bill seeks to amend the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961. The law protects the employment of women during the time of her maternity and entitles her of a ‘maternity benefit’. The Bill aims at increasing women’s participation in the workforce which is “decreasing day-by-day.” The provisions of bill apply to every establishment employing ten or more persons and include mines and factories.


Google fined $6.8 million by Russian antitrust body

Google has been fined 438 million rubles ($6.75 million) by the Russian antitrust authority for abusing its market position following a complaint by Yandex, Russia’s biggest search engine. Google has been found guilty of forcing Android smartphone makers to install its search engine on their devices, which has been seen to breach “protecting competition” laws. Google is an American multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products that include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, and software.


IKEA lays the foundation for its first store in India at Hyderabad

Ikea, a global leader in retail furniture, has laid the foundation for its first store in India in Hyderabad. The store is expected to open somewhere in July-August next year and is likely to see an investment of about Rs. 700 crore. This will be IKEA’s first store in the country and will form part of a chain of stores planned across the country in a decade from now.
