India, Japan ink ten agreements including civil nuclear deal

“India and Japan signed have ten agreements to boost the bilateral cooperation between the two nations. The agreements were signed in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Japan.
Agreements signed are
Agreement for Cooperation in Peaceful uses of Nuclear Energy.
Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on the Manufacturing Skill Transfe Promotion Program.
MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Outer Space.
MoU on Mutual Collaboration in Marine and Earth Science and Technology.
MoC in the Field of Agriculture and Food Related Industry.
MoU for Transport and Urban Development.
MoU in the Field of Textiles.
MOC in the Field of Cultural Exchange.
MoC on Cooperation in Sports.
MOU between Gujarat and Hyogo Prefectural Government.


 11-year-old Pune girl wins ‘Doodle 4 Google’ 2016 contest

11 year old Pune girl Anvita Prashant Telang has been named national winner of the “Doodle 4 Google” contest. The sixth standard student from Vibgyor High School in Balewadi area was chosen for her Doodle submission on the theme titled “If I could teach anyone anything, it would be”. The Doodle will be featured on the Google India homepage on November 14 to celebrate Children’s Day.


SC scraps Punjab law to stop sharing Ravi, Beas waters

The Supreme Court has scrapped Punjab Termination of Water Agreements Act, 2004 which unilaterally allows Punjab to stop sharing Ravi, Beas waters with other States. Ruling in this regard was given by a five-judge SC Constitution Bench led by Justice Anil R. Dave. The SC bench gave its opinion on a Presidential Reference made by then President APJ Kalam in 2004 to the apex court under Article 143 (1) of the Constitution questioning the constitutional validity of the Act.


Indian Women’s team wins Gold at the 7th World Carrom Championship

Indian women’s carrom team defeated Sri Lanka to win the gold at the seventh World carrom championship in Birmingham (UK) on Friday. India’s S Apoorwa and Kajol Kumari also won gold in the women’s doubles event. Meanwhile, the men’s team lost to Sri Lanka to win the silver medal in the competition.


Virat Kohli dismissed hit-wicket in Rajkot

Virat Kohli became the first Indian Test skipper to be out hit wicket since Lala Amarnath in 1949 after his foot disturbed the stumps in the ongoing Rajkot Test against England. Batting on 40, Kohli went well inside the crease to pull a short ball from spinner Adil Rashid when he dislodged the bails with his foot and got out.


Guy Ryder re-elected as DG of ILO

Guy Ryder from United Kingdom has been re-elected Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for a second five-year term. He was elected by the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and received 54 of the 56 votes. Ryder is the 10th DG of ILO and was elected for the first time in May 2012. He has some 35 years of experience in the world of work.


G Mahalingam is SEBI’s new Full-Time Member

Gurumoorthy Mahalingam took charge as Full-Time Member of SEBI on 10th November. He will be responsible for leading the Integrated Surveillance Department, Investment Management Department, Enforcement Department (ED), Foreign Portfolio Investors and Custodians, Collective Investment Schemes, and Department of Economic and Policy Analysis, among others.
