AS Kiran Kumar Appointed as ISRO chairman

Alur Seelin Kiran Kumar, director of the Space Applications Centre, has been appointed chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro). Former Isro chairman K.Radhakrishnan had retired on December 31, following which Shailesh Nayak, secretary, ministry of earth sciences, was given additional charge of Isro till the appointment of a new head.


Surendra Kumar Sinha Appointed Next Chief Justice of Bangladesh

Justice S K Sinha was on 12 January appointed Chief Justice of Bangladesh to become the first Hindu to hold the highest judicial post in the Muslim-majority country. Sinha was the most senior judge in the apex appellate division of the supreme court after Hossain. Unitary Bangladesh’s Supreme Court comprises two divisions — the appellate division and the high court division.


Australia Launches Online Visa Pilot Programme For Indians

Australia launched Online Visa Pilot Programme to make it easier for Indian business and tourism visitors to apply online visa for travelling Australia. The pilot programme has been launched on a trial basis. It covers online lodgement of subclass 600 visas for Indian business and tourism visitors. It will be rolled out through selected travel agents across India.  As per the Tourism 2020 programme of Australian Government, India has the potential to contribute between 1.9 billion US dollars and 2.3 billion US dollars annually to tourism industry by 2020.


Deepak Parekh Is BAE Systems India Chairman

HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh has been appointed Non-Executive Director and Chairman of BAE Systems India (Services) Private Limited. Presently, Deepak Parekh is the Chairman of Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC). In 1978, Parekh joined HDFC Ltd as Deputy General Manager and then went on to become its Chairman in 1993.
