Uday Kotak Only Indian In Forbes List ‘Most Powerful In Financial World’

Kotak Mahindra Bank Chief Uday Kotak, who has a net worth of about $7.1 billion (nearly Rs 47,234.5 crore), is the sole Indian in Forbes’ list of 40 of the most powerful people in the financial world who control the flow of trillions of dollars around the global economy. Uday Kotak is ranked 33rd in the Forbes list of ‘Money Masters: The Most Powerful People In The Financial World‘ topped by Blackstone Group’s CEO Stephen Schwarzman, who has a net worth of $10.2 billion (nearly Rs 67,858.05 crore) and oversees assets worth $344 billion (nearly Rs 22.8 lakh crore).


Indian Air Force’s E-Maintenance System Launched

Indian Air Force has launched its Electronic Maintenance Management System (e-MMS) Project, an automated military maintenance system. It was on 12 May inaugurated by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha at the Air Force Station in Pune, Maharashtra. The e-MMS project is one of the largest Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) IT implementation in the world. The project has been designed and developed by the Indian IT giant Wipro. IAF had signed the contract for the project e-MMS with Wipro as a System Integrator (SI) in 2013. The e-MMS system has a central console that will help IAF to get rid of paper works and heavy logbooks.


Shashank Manohar Is ICC’s First Independent Chairman 

Veteran cricket administrator Shashank Manohar was on 12 May elected unopposed as ICC’s (International Cricket Council) first independent Chairman. He was the sole nominee for the position and the ICC Board has now unanimously supported his appointment. He will have tenure of two years. He resigned from the post of President of Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on 10 May 2016. Before his election, the ICC Full Council approved constitutional amendments to accommodate the new position of an independent ICC Chairman. The amendments also included the abolishment of the President’s post with effect from the 2016 ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh. Manohar is a prominent Indian lawyer who served his first stint as the BCCI President from 2008-2011. Following the passing of Jagmohan Dalmiya, he was re-elected as the BCCI President in October 2015 and, by virtue of that position, has held the role of ICC Chairman since then.


International Nurses Day 2016 Observed Across The World

“International Nurses Day was observed across the world on 12 May 2016. The day is observed every year on the 12 May on anniversary of birth of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The day is observed to mark contributions of nurses towards people’s health. On this day, the International Council of Nurses commemorates nurses by distributing International Nurses’ Day (IND) Kit. This IND Kit 2014 contains educational and public information materials for use by nurses everywhere.

IND theme for 2016 is Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health systems’ resilience.

On this day, the President of India presents National Florence Nightingale Awards to selected nurses from across India. The award was instituted by Union Health Ministry and carries a Medal, a citation certificate and a prize amount of 50000 rupees. Florence Nightingale was born on 12 May 1820 and became an important figure in nursing sector during the Crimean War of 1850s. At that time, she worked at the Barrack Hospital at Scutari (now in Istanbul) and led a team of nurses who cared for the injured British soldiers. She was appreciated for imposing strict standards of care including keeping ward clear, well stocked food and medical supplies.”
