1.3 lakh Indians book ticket to Mars

More than 1.3 lakh Indians have booked a flight to Mars which is a part of National Aeronautics & Space Administration’s InSight mission. US had the most number of people sending their names followed by China & India. InSight, scheduled to land on Mars on 26 Nov, next year, will be the 1st mission to look deep beneath the Martian surface, studying planet’s interior by listening for marsquakes


Transport for London gets 2017 Bad Grammar Award

Transport for London has been given the 2017 ‘Bad Grammar Award’ by The Idler Academy in Britain. The award was instituted by the academy to highlight “the incorrect use of English by people and institutions who should know better.”


12 November: Public Service Broadcasting Day

Public Service Broadcasting Day is observed on 12 November. The day is observed every year to commemorate the first and last visit of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947. The function is organized at the premises of All India Radio in New Delhi to mark the occasion.


Bangladesh Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigns

Bangladesh Chief Justice Surendra Sinha has resigned amid criticism over a Supreme Court verdict which scrapped Parliament’s power to remove judges on grounds of misconduct & incapacity. Sinha whose term was scheduled to expire in Jan next year is the 1st top judge of the country to step down. SC has issued a statement saying he is facing 11 charges including money laundering & corruption.


Dubai police officers set a Guinness World Record by pulling3 lakh kgplane

Dubai police officers set a Guinness World Record by pulling the world’s largest passenger airliner Airbus A380 for a distance of 100 metres. The plane which weighs 3.02 lakh kg was dragged by 56 police officers to break the previous record set by 100 people who pulled a 2.18-lakh kg airplane at Hong Kong International Airport in 2011.


Modi leaves for Philippines to attend ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for the Philippines, where he will participate in various bilateral and multilateral programmes, including the India-ASEAN Summit.His visit to the Philippines to attend the India-ASEAN Summit symbolises the country’s commitment to deepening ties with the ASEAN member states and the Indo-Pacific region as part of the ‘Act East Policy’.


Not to pursue Islamic banking in India

RBI has decided not to pursue a proposal for introduction of Islamic banking in the country. Islamic or Sharia banking is a finance system based on the principles of not charging interest, which is prohibited under Islam. Taking into account, wider & equal opportunities available to all citizens to access banking & financial services, RBI has decided not to pursue the proposal further.


Former Nepal Prime Minister Kirti Nidhi Bista passes away

Nepal’s three-time Prime Minister Kirti Nidhi Bista passed away at the age of 90 at Gyaneswor in Kathmandu. Bista served as Prime Minister from 1969 to 1970, 1971 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979 during the party-less Panchayat system under two monarchs – King Mahendra and King Birendra. Later in 2005, he served as the Vice Chairman of the government under the direct regime led by King Gynendra.


Varanasi tops list of India’s most polluted cities

With an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 491 on the 500-point scale, Varanasi has become the most polluted Indian city among 42 cities, according to data from Central Pollution Control Board. The concentration of PM2.5 was eight times the safe limit, indicating a public health emergency in the city. Gurugram was the 2nd most polluted with an AQI of 480.

The Sainik Sankshema Sabha will be organized in all districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Inauguration of Dakshin Bharat Area at a rally and grievance redressal programme held in Secunderabad. The Headquarters Telangana & Andhra Sub Area under the aegis of HQ Dakshin Bharat Area conducted. Thousands of former armed forces personnel from Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, and Hyderabad districts including those who had served in World War-II attended the rally.

Ace Indian cueist Pankaj Advani clinched his 17th world title after thrashing his arch-rival Mike Russell of England in the IBSF World Billiards Championship at Doha, Qatar.


Dhoni inaugurates his first global cricket academy in UAE

Two-time World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni inaugurated his first global cricket academy in Dubai, UAE. The facility named the MS Dhoni Cricket Academy (MSDCA) will have coaches from India to train the wards.
