T V Paul Elected As New President Of  International Studies Association

Indian-origin professor T V Paul has been elected 56th president of the International Studies Association (ISA). It is the most respected and widely known scholarly association in the world of international studies worldwide. This is a major honor and a life time achievement of a scholar in the field. The ISA is an important organisation for connecting scholars and practitioners in the field of international studies since 1959. Representing 100 countries, the association has more than 6,500 members worldwide, co-operating with 57 international studies organizations. It is currently headquartered at the University of Arizona, in Tucson.


Australia’s David Warner Completed 1000 Runs In 2014

Australian Cricketer David Warner completed 1000 Test runs in 2014. With this, he became the first opener to achieve the feat in one calendar year since England skipper Alastair Cook in 2012. He scored his century in the second innings of the first cricket Test against India at the Adelaide Oval. Also, he became the fifth batsman to complete 1000 Test runs in 2014. The other four are Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (1486 runs), Angelo Mathews (1201), Mahela Jayawardene (1003 runs) and veteran Pakistan batsman Younis Khan, who has 1213 runs.


Maharashtra Govt Declared Dahi Handi As Adventurous Sport

The Maharashtra government declared Dahi Handi ( Human pyramids formed on the occasion of Krishan Janmashtami) as adventurous sport in order to make it a safe sport . It is a traditional sport in Maharashtra. The state government took decision to make Dahi Handi as a safe activity and will formulate new rules and safety guidelines prescribed by the state commission. It will also ensure proper training for the participants and the use of all safety instruments.


Tamil Nadu Power Transmission Project Approved By CCEA

The Union Cabinet approved setting up an inter-state power transmission system in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 1,593 crore. The power transmission project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and will be completed within three years. The cost on creating transmission infrastructure is proposed to be met through KfW loan (40 percent), NCEF grant (40 percent of the total project cost) and the remaining 20 percent of the total project cost as state contribution.
