UN Elects Israel as Committee Chair For First Time 

The United Nations General Assembly elected Israel to chair its Legal Committee, which is also known as the Sixth Committee. It is for the first time ever that Israel has been chosen to head one of its six permanent committees.In the secret ballot election, Israel received 109 Yes votes. No votes were cast against Israel. However, there were 23 abstentions, 14 invalid ballots and 43 votes for other countries in the Western European.


Jupiter-like Planet Orbiting Two Suns Discovered 

Scientists have discovered a Jupiter-like planet, Kepler-1647b, orbiting a system of two stars, making it the largest such cosmic body ever found. The planet Kepler-1647b, located in the constellation Cygnus, was discovered by astronomers from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre and San Diego State University (SDSU) in the US. Researchers said that the Kepler-1647 is 3700 light-years away and about 4.4 billion years old, roughly the same age as the Earth.


Pranab Mukherjee Receives Highest Civilian Award of Ivory Coast 

“President Pranab Mukherjee has been presented National Order of the Republic of Ivory Coast, the highest civilian award of the West African country. The award was bestowed upon Pranab Mukherjee during his two days visit to Ivory Coast on the second leg of his three-nation African tour.”


World Blood Donors Day Observed On 14 June

World Blood Donors Day (WBDD) 2016 was observed on 14 June 2016.The theme of the 2016 World Blood Donor Day campaign is Blood connects us all. The theme highlights the common bond that all people share in their blood. The slogan for 2016 WBDD is Share life, give blood. The slogan focuses on voluntary donation systems. The voluntary donation systems play a pivotal role in encouraging people to care for one another and promoting community cohesion. The World Blood Donors Day (WBDD) was established in 2004 to raise awareness of the need for safe bold and blood products, and to thank donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. WBDD is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO) along with World Tuberculosis Day (24 March), World Health Day (7 April), World Immunization Week (last week of April), World Malaria Day (25 April), World No Tobacco Day (31 May), World Hepatitis Day (28 July), and World AIDS Day (1 December).
