Nepal CJ sworn in as interim Premier

On March 14,the Chief  Justice Khila Raj Regmi was sworn as interim President of Nepal .The general elections in Nepal will be conducted on 21 June 2013.The appointment came as a part of the package deal between four parties — Nepali Congress, United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Communist Party of Nepal – United Marxist Leninist and United Democratic Madhesi Front. On March 13th  they struck a deal on several issues related to peace process, citizenship and voter rolls.


Xi Jinping appointed Chinese President

On March 14 the new leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Xi Jinping  was appointed as the President of China. It is important to note that Xi Jinping, 59, was also chosen as the General Secretary of CPC in November 2012. On 14 March 2013, Xi Jinping was approved by National People’s Congress (NPC), the Parliament of China, in the comprehensive election process at Great Hall of the People. Out of 2963 delegates of NPC, there were 2956 delegates present. Out of the present delegates, 2952 voted for Xi Jinping.


Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013 Passed by Union Cabinet

On 14 March the Union Cabinet cleared a Bill providing for severe punishment for rape, acid attack, stalking and voyeurism more to the point reducing the age of consent for sex to 16 years.The bill which was named the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013 lowers the age of consent for sex from 18 to 16 years with making of rape as a gender-specific offence under which men only can be charged for it. The bill also proposes a punishment of not less than 10 years to a maximum of life imprisonment Defining acid attack as a separate IPC offence.Rape has been made a gender-specific crime only a woman can be its victim and it replaces the more general expression “sexual assault” used in the ordinance. It also provides for the death sentence if the rape victim dies or ends up in a vegetative state.


Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the Year 2011 Announced

The Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof. K.V. Thomas on 14 March 2013 announced Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the year 2011.These awards give recognition to those who are considered as the leaders of quality movement in the country. In a category called Large Scale Manufacturing Industry, Nokia Siemens Networks Private Limited, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu was given the award for excellence in quality standards. In the Large Scale Service Industry category, R Systems International Limited, Noida, and Uttar Pradesh won the award. In the Small Scale Manufacturing Industry category, the award was bagged by Technocrat Connectivity Systems (Private) Limited, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand.
