Raghuram Rajan Gets Best Central Bank Governor Award

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan has been conferred with the Best Central Bank Governor award for 2014 by Euromoney magazine. In January 2003, the American Finance Association awarded Raghuram Rajan the inaugural Fischer Black Prize for the best finance researcher under the age of 40. The other awards he has received include the global Indian of the year award from NASSCOM in 2011, the Infosys prize for the Economic Sciences in 2012, and the Center for Financial Studies-Deutsche Bank Prize for financial economics in 2013


Global Handwashing Day Observed Across The World

The 7th annual Global Handwashing Day (GHD) was observed across the world on 15 October 2014. Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of handwashing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention. GHD was created at the annual World Water Week 2008, which was held in Stockholm from August 17 to 23 and initiated by the Public Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW). The first Global Handwashing Day took place on October 15, 2008, the date appointed by the UN General Assembly in accordance with year 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation.


 ‘Final Test: Exit Sachin Tendulkar’ Book Released

A book titled ‘Final Test: Exit Sachin Tendulkar’ authored by writer-journalist Dilip D’Souza was released on 15 October. The book has been published by Random House India and books forward has been written by Harsha Bhogle. Final Test: Exit Sachin Tendulkar is a close scrutiny of Tendulkar’s last Test played at the Wankhede in November 2013 in which he scored 74 in the only innings that he played in the match. India won the match against West Indies by an innings and 126 runs against West Indies.


India 55th On Global Hunger Index – 2014

Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2014 was released by International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Welthungerhilfe and Concern Worldwide.India was ranked at 55th position while Pakistan and Bangladesh were ranked at 57th Position.


Government To Import Potatoes For First Time To Check Rising Prices

The Union Government decided to import potatoes to check rising prices. This is the first time that the potatoes will be imported. As per the decision, potato will be imported from Pakistan and European countries. Imports will be done to ensure sufficient supply till January 2015.
