India Successfully Test Fires Nuclear Capable Agni III Ballistic Missile

India on 16 April successfully test fired its nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile with a strike range of more than 3,000 km from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast. The test-fire was conducted from a mobile launcher by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) with the logistic support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Agni-III missile is powered by a two-stage solid propellant system. With a length of 17 metres, the missile’s diameter is 2 metres and launch weight is around 50 tonnes.


Former Nepal PM Surya Bahadur Thapa Died

Former Nepal Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa was died in Gurgaon, Haryana. He was 87.  Bahadur Thapa started his political career by executing underground student movement in 1950. In 1958, he was elected to the Assembly and became Chairman of the Advisory Council. In 1959, he was elected to the Upper House.  He served as Prime Minister of Nepal for five times. He worked under three different kings and his terms were in 1963-64, 1965–69, 1979–83, 1997–98 and 2003-04. He had been the first Prime Minister of the Panchayat System.

Susanta Lahiri Awarded Hevesy Medal Award 2015

Professor Susanta Lahiri, Chemical Sciences Division, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, received the Hevesy Medal Award 2015 at the Tenth International Conference on Methods and Applications of Radio-analytical Chemistry for his outstanding contributions to heavy ion induced radioisotope production, tracer packet technique, converter targets, and green chemistry.
