PM Dedicates INS Kolkata To The Nation

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 16 August dedicated to the nation the indigenously designed and built warship INS Kolkata. The 7500 tonne Kolkata class warship has been constructed by the Mazagon Docks Ltd, Mumbai and designed by the Navy’s Design Bureau. Its equipped to tackle enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircrafts.


Army Major Mukund Varadarajan Honoured with Ashok Chakra

India’s highest peacetime gallantry award ‘Ashoka Chakra’ has been awarded posthumously to Major Mukund Varadarajan. Major Mukund Varadarajan was the officer from the 44th battalion of Rashtriya Rifles, who laid down his life in a gun battle after killing three Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) earlier this year. He was leading an anti-terrorist search operation in Qazipathri village in J&K.
