Anand Mahindra Elected as new Chairperson of PHFI

Mahindra group Chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra on 16 October has been elected as The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) Chairperson for a term of three years.Mahindra succeeds NR Narayana Murthy, Infosys founder, Executive Chairman, who has held the position since July 2011.


Arunendra Kumar Appointed as new Chairman of Railway Board

The Railways on 16 October appointed acting Chairman of the Railway Board Arunendra Kumar as the head of the Board.Kumar, the Mechanical Member, was holding additional charge of Chairman, Railway Board (CRB) after the retirement of Vinay Mittal on June 30.


World Bank cuts India’s 2013-14 GDP Forecast To 4.7%

The World Bank on 16 October in its latest update scaled down India’s economic growth rate projection to 4.7 per cent for 2013-14 from its earlier estimate of 5.7 per cent, saying growth this year will be hampered by weak numbers in the first quarter.Most recently, its multi-lateral agency counterpart – the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – pegged India’s economic expansion at 4.25 per cent for 2013-14.If India’s economy indeed grows at the rate projected by IMF or the World Bank, it would be the lowest economic expansion in 11 years. BeforeĀ  this, the economy grew by lower rate of 4 per cent in 2002-03.
