VP to visit Serbia, Malta & Romania
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will embark on a three-nation tour to Serbia, Malta and Romania to boost ties with the Central European countries.


National Insurance gets new CMD
Tajinder Mukherjee has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director of National Insurance Company Limited (NIC). Prior to her joining the NIC, she was the General Manager and Chief Underwriting Officer of New India Assurance.


Wholesale inflation drops to four-month low of 4.53% in August
Inflation based on wholesale prices eased to a four-month low of 4.53% in August on softening of prices of food articles, especially vegetables. The Wholesale Price Index-based inflation stood at 5.09% in July and 3.24% in August last year.


RBI released India’s Foreign Trade: August 2018
India’s overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) in April-August 2018-19 (as per the RBI Press Release) are estimated to be USD 221.83 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 20.70% over the same period last year. Overall imports in April-August 2018-19 are estimated to be USD 269.54 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 21.01% over the same period last year.


‘Shilp Guru’ & National award to Master Craft Persons
Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani presented ‘Shilp Guru’ and National Award to Master craft persons at a function held at Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Eight ‘Shilp guru’ and 25 National awards were presented for the year 2016.


NASA launches satellite to track Earth’s melting ice
In a bid to understand Earth’s ice sheets, glaciers, sea ice, snow cover and permafrost, NASA successfully launched its Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite-2, or ICESat-2. The satellite with a three-year mission was launched with liftoff aboard a Delta II rocket from Space Launch Complex-2 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.


18 September: International day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was observed on 16th September throughout the world. The theme for International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2018 was ‘Keep Cool and Carry On: The Montreal Protocol’.


Kenya’s Kipchoge Smashes Marathon world record in Berlin
Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge set a new marathon world record in Berlin (Germany), smashing the previous best as he clocked 2 hours 1 minute 39 second. Kipchoge has dominated marathon racing since making his debut in Hamburg in 2013.
