Lok Sabha Passes Companies Act Amendment Bill, 2014

The Lok Sabha on 17 December passed the Companies amendment Bill, 2014, which provides for severe punishment for those raising illegal deposits from the public. Earlier the Union Cabinet had approved the amendments earlier this month.


Union Cabinet Approved GST Constitutional Amendment Bill

The Union cabinet on 17 December approved the Constitution Amendment Bill on goods and services tax (GST), clearing the way for its introduction in ongoing session of Parliament to bring about long-pending indirect tax reforms. The government aims to roll out the goods and services tax (GST) from April 1, 2016.


USAID chief Rajiv Raj Shah Resigned

The head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Rajiv Raj Shah on 17 December  resigned from his position. Rajiv will leave the office in February 2015. Shah joined the office of USAID on 24 December 2009. Being the head of USAID, Shah led more than 9600 professionals in 80 missions around the world, and managed an annual budget of over 22 billion US dollars.


Church Of England’s First Female Bishop Named As Libby Lane

Reverend Libby Lane had been appointed as the first female bishop of the Church of England. She will become the new Bishop of Stockport, a post that was vacant since May 2014. Libby will succeed the Reverend Robert Atwell, who is now the Bishop of Exeter.
