Former Sikkim governor Rama Rao dead

Former Sikkim governor and senior BJP leader V Rama Rao died in Hyderabad on 17 January 2016, after prolonged illness. He was 81. former Jan Sangh leader, Rao served as Sikkim governor from 2002 to 2007. Born in Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, he was a lawyer by profession and practised at Andhra Pradesh High Court.He joined Jan Sangh in 1956 and was associated with various trade unions. He was first elected to Andhra Pradesh legislative council in 1966 and re-elected to the upper house in 1972, 1978 and 1984. Rama Rao served as president of BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit from 1993 to 2001.


Delhi Acers won a maiden Premier Badminton League title

The Delhi Acers beat Mumbai Rockets 4-3 in the final match played at  Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on 17 January 2016 and clinch 2016 maiden Premier Badminton League title.This was the first PBL title for Delhi Acers, owned by Infinite Computer Solutions. The first edition of PBL (2013) was won by Hyderabad Hotshots. PBL was earlier known as Indian Badminton League (IBL) when founded in 2013. It is a franchisee league managed and commercially owned by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).


For first time in 66 years, no camel contingent at Republic-Day parade

For the first time in the history of the Republic Day celebrations, the iconic Border Security Force (BSF) camel contingent will not be ambling down the Rajpath in Delhi on January 26.While the contingent is in Delhi since the last few months, it has not been included in the rehearsals.The camel contingent first became a part of the national festival celebration in 1976 after it replaced a similar squad of the Army, which had been participating in the Republic Day parade since the first such event in 1950.
