World Philosophy Day: 17 November:

The World Philosophy Day was observed globally on 17 November 2016. This year, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organised the special events from 16 November to 18 November. The Day is celebrated on every third Thursday of November. This year, the Day was celebrated in line with the International Day for Tolerance (16 November).


Oxigen Partners Federal Bank for Cash Management Services

Federal Bank has tied up with Oxigen to expand the bank’s e-collection facility to the about 3 lakh- retail outlets of Oxigen. The agreement was exchanged between Chief Operating Officer, Federal Bank, Shalini Warrier, and Pramod Saxena, Founder and Chairman of Oxigen, in the New Delhi on November 17, 2016.


Patel most common Indian surname in UK: dictionary

Patel has emerged as the most common Indian surname in the UK, according to a new Oxford dictionary. The ‘Oxford Dictionary of Family Names in Britain and Ireland’ has put together the origins of nearly 50,000.One of the most common Indian surnames, Patel, was a status name from a Hindu and Parsi name for a village herdsman. It is one of the most common Indian surnames in Britain, with over 100,000 bearers recorded in the 2011 census.


Iran becomes India’s top crude oil supplier

Iran for the first time ever has surpassed Saudi Arabia to become India’s top crude oil supplier. It was revealed by ship tracking data and a report compiled by Thomson Reuters Oil Research and Forecasts. Earlier, Iran used to be India’s second-biggest oil supplier after Saudi Arabia till 2010-11. However, it had ceded its position to Iraq after the tougher western countries sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear development programme.


HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri ranked 36th in Fortune’s top business men list

HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri has been ranked 36th in the US magazine Fortune’s top 50 business persons list for 2016, and is the only Indian among three persons of Indian origin in the global rankings. Puri, who has led the second largest private sector lender since its inception in 1994, has been ranked 36th in the list, which evaluates corporate leaders’ business performance. While Facebook’s Mark Zuckerburg leads the list, Microsoft’s chief executive Satya Nadella has been ranked fifth.


Reliance Group launches IoT services venture ‘UNLIMIT’

Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Group announced a strategic partnership with Cisco Jasper for the launch of its new venture ‘UNLIMIT’ to provide Internet of Things (IoT) services to enterprise customers across India. The outlook for IoT services in India is virtually UNLIMITed, with the number of connected devices projected to rise from 200 million today to around 3 billion by 2020, and revenues set to increase from $5.6 billion today to USD 15 billion in 2020. IoT, fuelled by machine-to-machine communication, essentially refers to microprocessor and sensor-fitted gadgets or ‘things’ within a network talking to each other, swapping real-time data and information to perform specific actions.
