India Ranked 78th in Global Passport Index

India Ranked low at 78th position on the recently released Global Passport Index 2017 with a visa-free score of 46. Ranking is based on the number of  nations their citizens can visit without a visa or an arrival. Germany ranked No.1 in 2017 Passport Index with a visa-free score of 157 followed by Singapore with visa-free score of 156.


Karnataka allows sale of white Kerosene in Open market

The Karnataka Govt has decided to allow the sale of white Kerosene in open market. Addressing the media in Mangaluru recently. State food and civil supplies Minister UT Khader said that government has issued an order this effect. Those interested in selling white Kerosene in open market can approach the office of the Food and Civil Supplies in their districts.


Amonatov wins Delhi International Chess

Top seeded Grand master Farrukh Amonatov of Tajikistan won the 15th edition of the Delhi International Chess tournament after setting for a draw with Grand master Diptayan Ghosh in the 10th and final round of last game scoring 8.5 points out of  10 points.


Bengal’s Sitalpati gets UNESCO recognition

“Sitalpati” Cooch Behar district West Bengal has been recognized as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Weaving sitalpati mats is an age-old cultural tradition of cooch Behar region. It consists of weaving together the green cane slips of the Murat plants, indigenous to the region. Through this the State Govt is acting as a facilitator between the artistes and their crafts.


Timothy Committee Suggests 20% Reservation seats for girls

A committee formed by the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) has recently given its suggestion to create 20% reservation seats for the girls students in IITs out of the total number of seats available. The committee headed by professor Timothy Gonsalves recommended the Supernumerary seats to address the issue falling number of female students entering the institute.
