Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani Appointed as new Censor Board chief

Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani was appointed as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on 19 January. Nihalani, known for the 1990s blockbusters Shola aur Shabnam and Aankhen will succeed Leela Samson who resigned from her office on 16 January 2015. Nihalani is also known for producing a fan-song for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 titled Har Ghar Modi-The Power House of India.


Eminent Political Scientist Rajni Kothari Died

Renowned political scientist and theorist Rajni Kothari was died on 19 January in Delhi. Prof Kothari was the founder of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) and Lokayan (Dialogue of the People). In 1985, Lokayan was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, also known as “Alternative Nobel”. He was also associated with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), International Foundation for Development Alternatives and People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL). Kothari has been counted as one of the great political thinkers of the 20th century.


Indian American Frank Islam Presented with Martin Luther King Award

An eminent Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist Frank Islam has been presented with the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr Award in recognition of his contribution to the legacy of the great leader through his efforts in international service and civil engagement. Frank Islam was born in Azamgarh, a district in Uttar Pradesh and went to the United States at the age of 15.  He is now a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, civic leader and thought leader with a special commitment to civic, educational and artistic causes. He was given this prize in recognition of his contribution to the legacy of the great leader, through his efforts in international service and civil engagement.


Twitter Appoints Taranjeet Singh As Sales Head For India Operations

Micro blogging site Twitter has appointed Taranjeet Singh as Head of Sales for its India operations.As Head of Sales, his responsibilities would include increasing commercial opportunities for Twitter in India and to work closely with brands and agencies to maximise value of real-time marketing.
