Magnus Carlsen Won FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship
Norwegian Chess Player Magnus Carlsen won the FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship title in Dubai. To win the Gold medal, he scored 11 of 15 points. The silver medal was won by Fabiani Caruana who was positioned at the second position.
India-Born Scientist Sanjaya Rajaram Won 2014 World Food Prize
India-born plant scientist Dr Sanjaya Rajaram has been named the winner of the $250,000 World Food Prize for his contribution in increasing global wheat production by more than 200 million tonnes in the years following the Green Revolution. Dr Rajaram’s breakthrough achievement in successfully cross-breeding winter and spring wheat varieties, which were distinct gene pools and had been isolated from one another for hundreds of years, led to him developing plants that have higher yields and a broad genetic base.
