German Chancellor Gets Indira Peace Prize

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was selected for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for the year 2013.The International Jury for the Prize was chaired by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which made this announcement on 19 November 2013 on the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.Dr. Angela Merkel is nominated for her exemplary leadership in Europe and the world during the financial crises, her commitment to universal peace and disarmament and her leadership role in strengthening productive and mutually beneficial relations with India and other developing countries.


Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Inaugurates First Bharatiya Mahila Bank In Mumbai

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the first branch of Bharatiya Mahila Bank on 19 November 2013 in the iconic Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai.Coinciding with the 96th birthday of late Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the first of its seven branches at a function in Mumbai in the presence of United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Bhartiya Mahila Bank, an all-women’s bank, will have a network of 25 branches by March 2014, according to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
