India, China hold first joint army exercise in Jammu and Kashmir

As part of the ongoing initiative to enhance interaction and cooperation between India and China, under the provisions of Border Defense Cooperation Agreement, 2013, the Indian and Chinese armies held the second joint exercise “Sino-India Cooperation 2016”. This was a sequel to the first exercise held on February 6, 2016. Soldiers of Chushul Garrision from India and of Moldo Garrision from China, participated in the exercise.


Maharashtra govt launches ‘Kaushalya Setu’ skill-development programme

Maharashtra government has launched ‘Kaushalya Setu’, its skill development programme for students on 19th October 2016 in Mumbai. Under the Kaushalya Setu initiative, students of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, who fail to clear Class X or SSC exam, would be accommodated in the skill development courses, so that they do not lose a year.


Sir David Cox honoured with first International Prize in Statistics

Noted British statistician Sir David Cox (92) was awarded inaugural recipient of the International Prize in Statistics. The International Prize in Statistics Foundation has bestowed this award on Sir David Cox in recognition of Survival Analysis Model (or Cox Model) Applied in Medicine, Science, and Engineering. Sir David Cox is renowned statistician born on 15 July 1924 in Birmingham, England. He is known for developing the proportional hazards model i.e. Cox Model in 1992. His model is widely used in analysis of survival data which enables researchers to more easily identify risks of specific factors for mortality or other survival outcomes among groups of patients with disparate characteristics.


Two ships commissioned for Navy and Coast Guard

Two ships were commissioned on 19th October 2016, one for the Eastern Naval Command of the Navy and the other for the Indian Coast Guard in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Fast patrol vessel ICGS Gaidinliu, named after Naga freedom fighter and leader Rani Gaidinliu, was commissioned by Director-General Rajendra Singh of the Coast Guard.


Nissan to name Carlos Ghosn as chairman of Mitsubishi Motors

Nissan Motor Co Ltd will appoint its chief executive, Carlos Ghosn, as chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Corp as Japan’s second-biggest automaker. Since 1999, Nissan has been part of the Renault–Nissan Alliance, a partnership between Nissan and French automaker Renault.
