Odia Gets Classical Language Status

Odia on 20 February became the sixth Indian language of the country to get ‘classical language’ status. The Union Cabinet approved the long-pending demand of Odisha for according the tag to Odia which now puts it in the same league as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and is the first in the Indo-Aryan group of languages to get the status.


CCEA approves Proposal For National Mission For A Green India Scheme

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has on 20 February approved a proposal of the Ministry of Environment and Forests for a National Mission for a Green India (GIM) as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Of the total expenditure of Rs. 13,000 crore envisaged in the 12th Plan, the plan outlay is Rs.2000 crore. The source of funding for the scheme would be from the Plan outlay, and convergence with MGNREGA activities, CAMPA and the NAP.
