Nico Rosberg Won The Austrian F1 Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg from Germany won the Austrian F1 Grand Prix on 21 June. Nico Rosberg defeated his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton (Britain) and is now just 10 points behind him in this year’s F1 season. The victory was Rosberg’s third of the season, to Hamilton’s four. Brazilian Felipe Massa finished a distant third for Williams team after holding off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.


India’s First Air-conditioned DEMU Train Launched

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on 21 June flagged off India’s first Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train service with an air-conditioned coach in Kochi, Kerala. The Angamaly-Ernakulam-Tripunithura-Piravom train service is expected to help in reducing traffic congestion in the state’s fastest growing city.The train is equipped with bio-toilets and fully vestibule for free movement of passengers between coaches.


Vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyam Selected For ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ Award 2015

Carnatic vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan has been selected ‘Sangita Kalanidhi award’ 2015. It will be bestowed upon him when he will preside over the 89th annual conference of the Academy which will be held between December 15, 2015 and January 1, 2016.


First International Yoga Day Observed Globally

The first International Day of Yoga was on 21 June 2015 observed globally. This edition of IYD was led by India and was marked by 192 countries across the globe. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led thousands of participants of all ages at Rajpath yoga event. The celebrations were also held at the United Nations headquarter in New York which was led by External affair minister Sushma Swaraj. Numerous mass events were held in various cities across the world including New York London, Tokyo and Sydney. The idea to celebrate 21 June, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga was mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 September 2014 during his address to the UN General Assembly. Following which, the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 2014 adopted the resolution to commemorate 21 June as the International Day of Yoga every year.
