U.S. House For Greater Defence Ties with India

“The U.S. House of Representatives has passed amendments to the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA)-2017, seeking to enhance the country’s defence cooperation with India. The bill seeks to bring India at par with US’s NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) allies for technology and equipment sale. It also seeks to open a special office in the Pentagon dedicated exclusively to the US-India Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI). Once it gets assent of President, these provisions will liberalise the sale of a wide range of defence technologies to India, bypassing legislative approvals.”

“Cairn India MD and CEO Mayank Ashar Resigns”

The petroleum exploration arm of London-listed Vedanta Resources Cairn India’s managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) Mayank Ashar has resigned from his post. He will be replaced by the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sudhir Mathur as the interim CEO.

Lhakpa Becomes First Woman To Climb Everest Seventh Time

Lhakpa Sherpa,US-based Nepali climbed Mount Everest for the seventh time , breaking her own record for the most summits of the world’s highest mountain by any woman. She works in a 7-Eleven shop in Connecticut in the US. Two Sherpa climbers share between them the record of 21 ascents of Everest, the most number of climbs by men.

Anti-Terrorism Day Observed Across India

“Anti-Terrorism Day was observed across India on 21 May 2016. The day is annually observed on the death anniversary of seventh Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated at an election rally near Chennai by a suicide bomber from the LTTE on 21 May 1991.The day is observed to make people aware of the ongoing terrorist activities and the precautions to be taken by the commoners to prevent these acts of terrorism. Its motive is to promote unity, peace and harmony across the nation.  On this occasion, debates, discussions, seminars, symposia, etc. are organized in schools, colleges and universities across the country on the threats of terrorism and violence.”
