India ranks 20th on 2017 Climate Change Performance Index

“India was placed at the 20th rank among the 58 countries on the 2017 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI).
The index was released by Germanwatch, an independent German NGO and Climate Action Network Europe.The CCPI is an instrument designed to enhance transparency in international climate politics. It is list of countries doing the most to combat climate change First three spots in the list of 2017 CCPI rankings were left vacant.France was placed at 4th place, thus leads list for the first time.It was followed by Sweden (5th) and UK (6th).The index underlines that countries like India are making “great efforts” in the fields of renewables and energy efficiency.”


India’s longest expressway inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh

India’s longest expressway connecting Agra and Lucknow was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at Bangarmau in Unnao district of UP. It has been built by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in a record time of 23 months.The expressway has 2 km dedicated stretch built for fighter jets to land and take-off in times of “war-like emergencies”.The entire Expressway is lined with metal beam crash barrier on both sides and wire fencing for safe & secure transit.


PM Narendra Modi launches Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G), flagship housing for all scheme in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Under PMAY-G Government aims to provide affordable, environmentally safe and secure pucca house to every rural household living below the poverty line by 2022. PMAY-G is part Union Government’s flagship ‘Housing for All’ scheme and has replaced previous rural housing scheme Indira Awas Yojana The beneficiaries for this scheme will be selected through a completely transparent process using the Socio Economic Census 2011 data and validating it through the Gram Sabha.


Sangai Festival 2016 begins in Manipur

The 10-day-festival ‘Sangai Festival 2016’ inaugurated by Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh on November 21, 2016. It will continue till November 30, 2016, with the theme: ‘Destination Manipur’. The main aim is to celebrate the festival to promote Manipur as a potential tourist destination.

Senior journalist Akshaya Mukul has been awarded the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize for his book “Gita Press and the Making of Hindu India”. Judges and authors Samanth Subramanian, Mahesh Rao and Janice Pariat said they chose Mukul’s book for its “eye-opening and captivating exploration into a parallel literary culture that can often feel at a great remove from English-speaking metropolitan India”.


Bhullar wins Indonesia Open, Jeev Milkha Singh tied-second

Gaganjeet Bhullar of India won the USD 300,000 BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open for the second time in his career after closing with a four-under-par 68.Bhullar, who also won the event in 2013, sealed his seventh Asian Tour victory and a second title this season with a 16-under-par 272 total at the Pondok Indah Golf Course.Jeev Milkha Singh of India, a two-time Asian Tour number one, threatened briefly before settling for tied 2nd place, his best result since 2012, after making bogey on the 17th hole to finish on 72.


Scientists discover Super Earth like exoplanet GJ 536b

Scientists have discovered a new ‘super Earth’ type exoplanet named as GJ 536b orbiting a very bright star near to our Sun.The planet was jointly detected by Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) and the Geneva Observatory.The exoplanet GJ 536b has a mass of around 5.4 Earth masses.It is orbiting a star much smaller and cooler than the sun.It is not within the star’s habitable zone and has short orbital period of 8.7 day.The luminosity of its star makes it an attractive candidate for investigating its atmospheric composition.
