Pawan Goenka Appointed as Honorary Ambassador For Korea

Mahindra & Mahindra’s (M&M) Executive Director Pawan Goenka was appointed Honorary Ambassador of Foreign Investment Promotion for Korea on 22 May at a ceremony held at Mumbai. As Honorary Ambassador for Korea, he will promote economic ties between India and Korea and advise corporate India on potential investment opportunities in South Korea.


Akhil Reed Amar appointed as Member of the National Council on Humanities of US

Akhil Amar, an Indian-American professor from Yale University, was appointed as a member of the prestigious National Council on Humanities of United States (US) by President Barack Obama. Presently, Amar is Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at the Yale University.


Parvinder Singh Batth Becomes Mayor of Britain’s Wokingham Borough Council

Indian-origin councillor Parvinder Singh Batth was chosen as the mayor of Britain’s Wokingham Borough Council, the first Sikh to hold the position. Parvinder Singh Batth previously had served as Deputy Mayor of borough of Wokingham in Berkshire in south east England. He was born in Indian state of Punjab in the farmer’s family. Later he had migrated to United Kingdom.


International Day For Biological Diversity 2015 Observed Across The World

International Day for Biological Diversity was observed across the world on 22 May 2015. The theme of International Day for Biological Diversity 2015 is ” Biodiversity for Sustainable Development”. The day was celebrated with the aim of spreading awareness on biodiversity and the importance of preserving it in villages and islands. Initially from 1993 to 2000, International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated by the UN General Assembly annually on 29 December – the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity. In 2000, UN General Assembly adopted 22 May as International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to celebrate the adoption of the text of the Convention on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity.The day was celebrated to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
