Sachin Tendulkar Named ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Ambassador

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on 22 December announced that former Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, will be the ambassador for the upcoming 2015 Cricket World Cup in February 2015. It is the second successive time that the batting sensation will be the ambassador of ICC’s coveted tournament. Earlier, he fulfilled the role in the 2011 World Cup, which was co-hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.Sachin Tendulkar won the ICC 2011 World Cup after India beat Sri Lanka in the final. He is also the all-time leading run-getter in World Cup history with 2,278 runs in 45 matches at an average of 56.95. In his role as ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Ambassador, Tendulkar will promote and support a variety of ICC initiatives to enhance the profile of the tournament, which is the third biggest sporting event in the world and will take place in Australia and New Zealand from 14 February to 29 March 2015.


Prakash Mishra Takes Charge As CRPF Director General

Senior IPS officer Prakash Mishra on 22 December took over as the new chief of country’s largest paramilitary and lead anti-Naxal operations force Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Mishra was till now serving as the Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Union Home Ministry.The post of CRPF Director General has been vacant for over a fortnight after incumbent Dilip Trivedi had retired on 30 November 2014. Mishra’s tenure at the top post will end in February 2015.


National Mathematics Day Observed On Srinivasa Ramanujan’s Birth Anniversary

India observed National Mathematics Day to commemorate birth anniversary of Mathematician autodidact Srinivasa Ramanujan. India on 22 December 2014 celebrated National Mathematics Day. The day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The declaration to observe 22 December as National Mathematics Day was made by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 26 February 2012 at Madras University on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Ramanujan. It was also declared to observe year 2012 as the National Mathematics Year.
