Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launched “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign on 22 January. “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Teach the Daughter) campaign was launched with the objective improving India’s child sex ratio. The scheme was launched at Painpat in Haryana, a state with one of the poorest sex ratio in the country.“Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” will focus on 100 gender critical districts where the child sex ratio is particularly low by enforcing existing laws that criminalize pre-birth gender selection, and by improving girls’ school attendance, among other measures.


Justice Easwar Appointed As Interim Chairman of DDCA

Former High Court judge Justice R V Easwar has been appointed as the Interim Chairman of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA). Easwar was appointed by Delhi High Court following the plea of DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda who challenged the 16 January 2015 order of trial court that directed the cricket body to not to convene any meetings till Bansal’s plea is heard.


Jasjit Ahluwalia Appointed as Dean of School of Public Health at Rutgers University

Jasjit Ahluwalia, an eminent Indian-origin researcher and academician, was appointed as the Dean of School of Public Health at the Rutgers University in the US state of New Jersey. Jasjit Ahluwalia will assume the office as Dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health from April 2015. Currently, Ahluwalia is a professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Centre.
