Mayank Ashar Is new MD & CEO of Cairn India

Mayank Ashar has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cairn India with effect from 17 November 2014. Cairn India Limited was without a full-time CEO after the resignation of Rahul Dhir in August 2012. The company first appointed P Elango as Interim CEO who resigned in May 2014. After his resignation, Sudhir Mathur, the Chief Financial Officer of the company was given additional charge of interim CEO.  Cairn India Limited On 9 January 2007 was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India.  Cairn India is now part of the Vedanta Group, a globally diversified natural resources group.


Denis Mukwege Won EU Sakharov Human Rights Prize 2014

The 2014 Sakharov Prize, one of Europe’s most prestigious human rights accolades, will go to the Congolese physician Denis Mukwege for his treatment of the victims of gang rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo.


Indian-American Student Won Innovation Award

Indian-American ninth grader student Sahil Doshi has won ‘America’s Top Young Scientist’ award for his innovative design of an eco-friendly device that seeks to reduce carbon footprint while offering power for household usage.  Sahil Doshi, a student from Pittsburg, competed alongside nine other finalists to be declared winner of 2014 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. The award includes USD 25,000 and a student adventure trip to a destination such as Costa Rica.


International Stammering Awareness Day Observed Across The World

International Stammering Awareness Day (ISAD) was observed across the world on 22 October 2014. The day was observed to raise public awareness about the people who have the speech disorder of stuttering, which is also known as stammering. First International Stammering Awareness Day was observed in 1998. It is joint project between International Stuttering Association (ISA), International Fluency Association (IFA) and European League of Stuttering Associations (ELSA).


Bhaichung Bhutia Inducted To AFC’s Hall of Fame

Bhaichung Bhutia,  former Indian national team captain, has been inducted to the Asian Footaball Confederation’s (AFC’s) Hall of Fame on 22 October. Besides Bhaichung, nine other legendary players from Asia would also be honoured. The awards are being instituted for the first time and Baichung is the sole Indian to be recognised.
