North Korea test fires new ballistic missile

North Korea fired a submarine-launched missile that flew about 500 km (311 miles) towards Japan, a show of improving technological capability for the isolated country that has conducted a series of launches in defiance of UN sanctions. The test comes one day after the United States and South Korea launched joint military exercises on the peninsula.


Toxic gas leak at Bangladesh fertiliser unit sickens 250; plugged

About 250 people, including children, have fallen sick and hundreds of residents have been evacuated from their homes after a toxic gas leak from a fertiliser unit in Bangladesh’s port city of Chittagong. Di-ammonium phosphate (DPA) leaked from the DAP Fertiliser Company Limited on the bank of Karnaphuli river last night and firefighters battled until late morning to plug the leakage. DPA is one of a series of water-soluble ammonium phosphate salts that can be produced when ammonia reacts with phosphoric acid.


India is 7th wealthiest country, China second

India was ranked 7th among top 10 wealthiest countries in the world, according to a report by New World Wealth. The New World Wealth is a research consultancy that tracks the global wealth sector. The value of total individual wealth in India – which includes property, cash, equities and business interests – is pegged at $3,492 billion in 2015. The Top 5 Counties are: US, China, Japan, UK, Germany.


Maharashtra, Telangana ink pact for 3 irrigation projects

Maharashtra and Telangana have signed agreement for three irrigation projects to be constructed on Godavari, Pranahita and Painganga rivers. These agreements were signed in presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Under the agreement, the two States would take up Tummidi Hatti, Medigadda and Chanaka-Korata irrigation projects on Godavari River and its tributaries.


China launches first Tibetan-language search engine

China has launched its first Tibetan-language search engine ‘Yongzin’ which will serve as a unified portal for all the Tibetan-language websites. It has eight sections for news, websites, images, videos, music, encyclopedia, literature and forums.
