Shashi Kapoor Selected For Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2014

Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2014 will be given to Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor. He is the 46th Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winner.The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of 10 lakhs rupees and a shawl. In 2011,  Shashi Kapoor was honoured with Padma Bhushan. He is also a recipient of 3 National Film Awards.


Singapore’s First Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew Died

Lee Kuan Yew, who was Singapore’s first Prime Minister when the country gained Independence in 1965, has died on 23 March at the age of 91. Lee Kuan Yew, who was born in 1923, formed the People’s Action Party in 1954, then became Prime Minister in 1959. He led the nation through a merger with the Federation of Malaysia in 1963, as well as into Independence in 1965. He was elected as First Prime Minister of Singapore in 1959. Since then he had served as PM of country for 31 years and had stepped down in 1990. He also had overseen the separation of Singapore from Malaysia in 1965.


World Meteorological Day was Observed Across The World

The World Meteorological Day 2015 was observed across the world on 23 March 2015. The theme of World Meteorological Day 2015 wa Climate Knowledge for Climate Action. The theme assumes significance in the backdrop of necessity to disseminate Climate Change related knowledge to take up appropriate mitigation and adaptation actions. 23 March is celebrated as World Meteorological Day to commemorate the entry into force of the WMO Convention in 1950 aimed at creating the organisation. In 1951 WMO was designated a specialized agency of the United Nations System. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is an intergovernmental organization with a membership of 189 Member States and Territories. It originated from the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), which was founded in 1873.
