Pope Francis Declared Two Indians As Saints
Pope Francis on 23 November declared Fr Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Sister Euphrasia Eluventhinkal from India as Saints at Vatican. They belong to the renowned Syro Malabar Catholic Church in Kerala. With these two canonisations, the centuries-old Syro Malabar Church will have three Saints, the first being Sister Alphonsa, who was declared a saint in 2008.
Magnus Carlsen Won FIDE World Chess Championship 2014
Magnus CarlsenMagnus Carlsen of Norway won the FIDE World Chess Championship 2014 on 23 November. He defeated Challenger Viswanathan Anand in Game 11 of a 12-game match to achieve the 6.5 points needed to claim victory.
Deepak Gupta Named new UPSC chief
The government has appointed former IAS officer Deepak Gupta as new chairman of UPSC, breaking away from the tradition of appointing the chief from the serving members of the Commission. Deepak Gupta, a retired IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, had taken over as the chief of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
