Shanka Ghosh selected for 2016 Jnanpith Award:

Eminent modern modern Bengali poet Shanka Ghosh has been selected for Jnanpith Award for the year 2016. Born in 1932, Shanka Ghosh is a prolific poet, critic and academician and an authority on Rabindranadh Tagore, whose poetic idiom and experiments with various poetic forms mark his greatness as a creative talent. His poems convey messages but are free polemics.


NITI Aayog rolls out Health Index:

NITI Aayog along with Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare has rolled out performance of Health out comes index to rank states on the basis of their performance on measurable health indicators. The index was developed with inputs from domestic and international experts, including academicians and development partners as feed back from states.


Passport rules liberalised in India:

In a move to speed up and simplify the passport delivery process, the Govt announced a series of steps that would help single mothers, Orphaned Children and sadhus obtain passports with ease. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced its new passport policy.
Applicants can now submit if not a Birth Certificate a transfer/ school leaving/ matriculation certificate, a PAN Card, Adhar Card, Driving License, Election Photo Identity Card among other such documents.


Bisci Suraksha Yojana launches in Odisha:

Odisha Govt launched the Biju Suraksha Yojana, a scheme to nature the Orphan and HIV infected children residing in different child care institutions and Orphanages. The main aim of th scheme is to facilitate care and protection act and supplement for providing additional resources and complementary moralities to the existing centrally sponsored schemes. On Dec 24th, 2016 Odisha CM. Naveen Patnaik launched the scheme.


ICICI Bank launches Eazy Pay App:

India’s largest private sector bank ICICI Bank launched Easy Pay mobile applications for merchants as an all-in-one acceptance payment plat form. The app will consolidate all the digital wallets, QR code, Unified Payments Inter face (UPI), Debit card and credit card. With this, ICICI Bank becomes the first Bank to roll out all-in-one payments plat form in the country.


December 24 : National Consumer Day:

The National Consumer Day is observed every year in India on 24th December. On this day the consumer protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of te president. It highlights the importance of the consumer movement and promote basic rights and responsibilities of all consumers.


New Ebola Vaccine up to 100% effective:

A prototype Vaccine for Ebola may be “up to 100% effective” in protecting against the deadly virus. The World Health Organization said. In a major clinical trial, nearly 6000 people in Guinea were given the test vaccine last year, at the tail end of the lethal epidemic of Ebola. Not one of the contracted the disease, Researchers reported in the Lancet Medical Journal.


Shiva Keshavan grabs gold at Asian Luge Champion Ship:

India’s Shiva Keshavan fought a grave injury to win gold at the Asian Luge Champion Ship in Nagano, Japan. He finished the race with a time of 1 minute, 39,692 seconds and top speed of 130.4 km/h to Chinch the title. Japan’s Tanaka Shohei came in second with a time of 1 minute 44.874 seconds and the top speeds of 124.6 km/h to grab silver, while the bronze medal went to chinese Taipei’s Lien Te-an, who clocked 1 minute 45.120 seconds with a 126.3 km/h top speed.


Mary Kom givenn AIBA Legends Award:

India’s legendary boxer MC Mary Kom was awarded the Legend award at the 70th anniversary of International Boxing Fedaration (AIBA) in Montreux, Switzerland. The Indian Boxer who’s a five time world Champion and an Olympic bronze medal winner was honoured for her promising career in boxing.


Newly discovered fish Named after Obama:

In tribute to his marine conservation efforts in the pacific, scientist names new species after Hawaii-born president. This fiss will be named in honour of president Obama for his commitment to protecting nature through the expansion of the “Papahanamokuakea Marine National Monument. The name of the fish given by Dr. Sylvia Early, National Geographic Explorer.


India WON U-19 Asia cup title:

India dished out a clinical performance to beat hosts Sri Lanka by 34 runs and lift the Asian Cricket council under-19’s Asia cup title.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, India Under-19’s first posted a competitive 273/8 in their 50 overs and then rode on its spinners fine bowling effort to bowl out Sri Lanka U-19 to 239 in 48.4 overs at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka.
