Dohmen, Navomi named best hockey players of 2016
Belgium’s John-John Dohmen and Netherlands Naomi van as male and female Hockey Federation’s player of the year award. In an event hosted in Chandigarh on 23rd February, the Olympic silver medalists Dohmen and Naomi were handed these awards. Great Britain’s Olympic gold medalist Maddie Hinch won the Hockey star 2016 female Goalkeeper of the year award. While, Ireland’s David Harte was crowned the best in the world for the second year in a row as he received the male Goalkeeper of the year awards.
74th Central Excise Day Celebrated on 24 February
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) on 24 February 2017 celebrated the the central Excise Day across the country. To mark occasion, the Central Excise Officers all over the country Organized seminars, workshops, trade interactions and cultural events. The central Excise and salt Act, which was enacted on 24 February 1944.
Nobel Winning Economist Kenneth J.Arrow dies at 95
Nobel winning economist and mathematician Kenneth J. Arrow passed away at his home in Palo Alto, in the San Francisco in USA. He was 95. He was the joint winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics with John Hicks in 1972. To date he is the youngest person ever to have received this award, at the age of 51. He spent most of his career at Stanford University. Five of his former students went on to become Nobel Winners.
7 Tiny New Frogs are Discovered in India
After 5 years of extensive explorations in the Western Ghats in India, researchers have discovered seven tiny new frog species, known as Night Frogs. The Adorable creatures are among the smallest in the World, and four of the new species are tiny enough to fit on a fingernail. Despite only just being discovered, the researchers warn that five of the new species are under direct threat of extinction, and urge environmentalists to set up conservation programmes immediately.
India, Japan ink pact on Rail Safety
India Signed an agreement with Japan for enhancing railway safety in the Indian Railways with focus on railway track and rolling stock safety. The Memorandum of Corporations was signed between Railway Board Chairman A.K. Mittal and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan Vice-Minister Hiroshi Tarata. Under this agreement, the areas of cooperation include rail inspection, rail wielding automatic railway track safety inspection.
