Bank deposits with RBI hit record high after demonetisation

In the wake of demonetisation, bank deposits with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have reached a record high of Rs. 4.3 trillion, beating the earlier record of Rs. 1.7 trillion in May 2009. The RBI accepts money from various banks by offering government securities as collateral. The Indian banking system had collected deposits worth Rs. 5.12 trillion as of 18 November.


5th International Tourism Mart begins in Imphal, Manipur

The fifth International Tourism Mart has begun in Imphal, Manipur. It will be held between 23– 25 November 2016. The event has been organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism in association with the North Eastern States and West Bengal.North East region of India has immense tourism potential because its varied topography, rich flora, fauna and ethnic communities with rich heritage, lifestyles, festivals, arts, and crafts. The event has been organised with the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of the region in the domestic and international markets. It brings together the tourism business fraternity and entrepreneurs together to facilitate interaction between buyers, sellers, media, Government agencies and other stakeholders. 57 buyer delegations from countries like Australia, Japan, Japan, US, Brazil, UK, Canada are participating in this edition of mart.


Tribals celebrate Wangala harvest festival in Meghalaya

“Hundreds of Garo tribals gathered here recently to celebrate the harvest festival of Wangala with much fervour here.
The festival marks the end of a period of toil for farmers wanting a good output from their fields. Dressed in their traditional fineries, farmers of the tribe gathered together to dance in honour of Saljong, the spirit of the Sun and fertility. The popular dance, known as the Wangala Dance or 100-drum Festival, is an intrinsic part of the post-harvest festival of the region.”


China successfully launches fourth data satellite Tianlian I-04

China has successfully launched its fourth data satellite named Tianlian I-04. The satellite will join its three predecessors to achieve global network operation. The satellite was launched on board of Long March-3C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest Sichuan province. Tianlian I-04 has been developed by the China Academy of Space Technology under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The satellite seeks to achieve global network operation that will provide data relay, measurement and control services for its manned spacecraft. The network will also offer data relay services for the country’s medium- and low-Earth orbiting resources satellites, control support and measurement for spacecraft launches.
