Sania Mirza Named UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador For South Asia

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was on 25 November appointed the UN Goodwill Ambassador for the South Asian region by UN Women at an event held to mark the International Day To End Violence Against Women.


International Day For Elimination Of Violence Against Women Observed On 25 November

International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on 25 November 2014 across the world to raise awareness about violence against women. In 1999 the UN General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The date of 25 November was chosen to commemorate the Mirabal sisters, three political activists Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961) ordered brutally assassinate in 1960.


Shah Rukh Khan Becomes Brand Ambassador Of DHFL

Housing finance company, DHFL announced Bollywood celebrity Shah Rukh Khan as its Brand Ambassador. DHFL is the second largest housing finance company of India. Shah Rukh is the first brand ambassador of DHFL in its 30 year journey. DHFL was founded by Rajesh Kumar Wadhawan in 1984 with a vision to provide financial access to own a home. DHFL has been marketing its solutions to customers across 550 locations in India through national and regional level advertisement and event campaigns. It  also has representative offices in Dubai and London.


Ajit Doval Appointed Special Representative By PMO on Indo-China Border Issue

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has been appointed as the special representative by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to resolve the India-China border issue. The issue has since long been a source of tension between the two countries. Doval is credited with solving several issues including planning key missions related to Myanmar and China related missions. In September this year, Chinese incursions in Ladakh raised security alarms for the Indian government. Indian troops had to reportedly make a tactical retreat of about two kilometers in Chumar.


Justice C.K.Prasad Selected As The Next Chairman Of PCI

The Former Supreme Court judge Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has been selected to be the next Chairman of the Press Council of India (PCI). CK Prasad will succeed  Markanday Katju, whose three-year term ended on 11 October 2014. Chandramauli Kumar Prasad was appointed as the Additional Advocate General of the State of Bihar in 1993. In November 1994, he was elevated as permanent Judge of the Patna High Court and later in the same year he was transferred to Madhya Pradesh High Court. He took oath as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on 20 March 2009. In February 2010, CK Prasad was elevated as the Judge of Supreme Court of India.
