Election Commission Announced Dates Of  Elections In Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir

The Election Commission of India on 25 October 2014 announced election dates for Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. While the term of the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly ends on 19 January 2015, the term of 81-member Jharkhand assembly expires on 3 January 2015.

Here are the details:-

* Phase 1 of elections for both states is November 25.

* Phase 2 of elections for both states in December 2.

* Phase 3 of elections for both states is December 9.

* Phase 4 of elections for both states is December 14

* Phase 5 of elections for both states is December 20.

* Counting for both states is on December 23.


‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ To Be Observed On Sardar Patel’s Birth Anniversary

The government has decided to observe the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as  ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day) on 31 October  every year. The government will attempt to create awareness among the people about Sardar Patel’s contribution towards India’s freedom struggle and ensuring national integration in India. Sardar Patel played a pivotal role in the merger of princely states with British ruled India to form a sovereign united country called India. The government will try to make RED a mass movement, reaching people from all avenues of life. The participation of the people shall be voluntary.


Ashwika Kapur Won 2014 Panda Award
Ashwika Kapur, a 26-year-old science and natural history filmmaker from West Bengal, has won the prestigious Wildscreen Panda Awards also known as the Green Oscar for her film on a Kakapo parrot named Sirocco. Kapur won the award at a ceremony in Britain’s Bristol city in the Wildscreen Festival for her 15-minute film “Sirocco – How a Dud became a Stud”.


Alan Eustace Broke The World Altitude Record For Highest Free-Fall Parachute Jump

Alan Eustace, a senior Google vice-president broke the world altitude record for highest free-fall parachute jump. Eustace broke the world altitude record of parachute jump set by Austrian Felix Baumgartner. Eustace jumped in a specially designed space suit from an altitude of 135908-foot.  He was carried by a large balloon filed with 35000 cubic feet of helium from New Mexico to over 40 kilometers (25 miles) above the earth. After Jumping, he crossed the speed of more than 1300 kilometer per hour, which exceeded the speed of sound, setting off a small sonic boom, and broke three skydiving records in the process. After starting his fall, he reached earth within 15 minutes.
