G4 Summit held at NewYork

The G-4 countries of India, Brazil, Germany and Japan on 26 September emphasized that they were legitimate candidates for permanent membership in an expanded and reformed UN Secretary Council and supported each other’s candidature. The four leaders Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff participated in the G-4 Summit held at New York. The G-4 is celebrating 10 years since its formation. The G-4 pledged to work together with all member states and to accelerate outreach towards achieving an early and meaningful reform of the Security Council.


Ex-Nepal Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai quits Maoist Party

Senior Maoist leader and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai resigned on 26 September from the Maoist Party. Bhattarai also quit his seat in Parliament. Bhattarai was head of the People’s Government during the decade long Maoist insurgency that began in 1996. He became the Prime Minister for 19 months-August 2011 to March 2013 and quit after the first constituent assembly failed to deliver the constitution within the promised time frame.
