19th Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards – 2012 Announced

19th Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the year 2012 were announced by Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan. The award winners and recipients of commendation certificates were selected from a total of 63 applicants from various sectors following vigorous evaluation by a group of qualified and trained professionals from different spheres of intellectual activity. The awards, given annually, were instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards in the year 1991 with a view to encourage Indian manufacturing and service organizations to strive for excellence and giving special recognition to those – considered leaders of quality movement in the country.
Winners in Different Categories:-
*Best of All Award – Rail Wheel factory (Ministry of Railways), Bangalore
*Large Scale Manufacturing Industry – Sakthi Masala P. Ltd., Erode, Tamil Nadu.
*Large Scale Service Industry – Tata Business Support Services Limited, Hyderabad.
*Small Scale Manufacturing Industry – Elin Appliances Pvt. Ltd., Solan, Himachal Pradesh.


Kerala Cabinet Ratified New Liquor Policy

Kerala state cabinet cabinet on 27 August ratified the new liquor policy. The policy was contemplated to shut down bars attached to hotels below the five-star category . It was a part of governments plan to reduce availability of liquor.
