Obama Appoints First Female To Lead Secret Service

On March 27, the President Obama selected longtime Secret Service agent and current chief of staff Julia Pierson to be the next head of the agency. She is the first lady Secret Service Agent in America.She was appointed in place of Mark Sallivasmwho retired in February.


PM Manmohan Singh meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

On March 27, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh  met China’s new President Xi Jinping in Durban.This is the  first bilateral meeting between the two leaders after the leadership change in Beijing.In this meeting Manmohan Singh raised the issue of  Beijing’s proposal to construct three dams across the Brahmaputra river .


Saina nominated for BWF’s Female Player of the Year Award

On March 27,Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal was  nominated for the 2012 Female Player of the Year Award of the Badminton World Federation on the back of an impressive performance in the season which had seen her win a bronze medal in London Olympics.World number two Saina is the only non-Chinese among the five contenders for the top annual award among women shuttlers instituted by the BWF.


Kudankulam nuclear plant unit 1 to be operational in April

In the  fifth BRICKS summit, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured Russian President Vladimir Putin that the first phase of the nuclear power project at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu will be up and running by April 2013.And then second and third units will be started.


Malala Yousafzai, signed 3-Million Dollar deal for Publishing her Life Story

Malala Yousafzai, the 15 years old Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head by Taliban in October 2012 for advocating girls’ education, signed a deal for around 3 million dollars in March 2013 to publish her memoir.The Book which is titled I am Malala is supposed to Publish later in this year.It is going to be published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson in the UK and Commonwealth and by Little, Brown in the rest of the world.


Earthquake in Taiwan

On March 27 a strong earthquake struck central Taiwan , killing at one person and injuring 19 as it damaged buildings on the quake-prone island.  The magnitude of the earthquake wss 6.1.
