Delhi’s Aurangzeb Road to be renamed APJ Abdul Kalam Road

Aurangzeb Road in Lutyen’s Delhi will soon be known as APJ Abdul Kalam Road with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on 28 August 2015 giving its nod in this regard. There were requests from certain sections of the society for changing the name of the road as a tribute to the former President. The matter was placed before the council on August 28th which unanimously gave a go ahead for the same.NDMC is the final authority and no further statutory clearance is required for the renaming.


Vassiliki Thanou sworn in as first female Prime Minister of Greece

Greece’s Supreme Court chief justice, Vassiliki Thanou, was sworn in as the nation’s first female prime minister on 27 August 2015 and will head a caretaker government ahead of early elections called for next month after leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned.


Pakistan’s nuclear stockpile could become world’s third largest by 2025

Pakistan is on course of having about 350 nuclear weapons in about a decade, the world’s third-largest stockpile after the US and Russia and twice that of India, two major American think-tanks said on 27 August 2015.”In the next five to 10 years, Pakistan could have a nuclear arsenal not only twice the size of India’s but also larger than those of the United Kingdom, China, and France, giving it the third-largest arsenal behind the United States and Russia,” said a report by two renowned scholars Tom Dalton and Michael Krepon.


Union Government released the Smart Cities list

Union Government released the list of 98 cities that will be part of its ambitious Smart Cities project. These cities together have a population of 13 crore, accounting for 35 per cent of India’s urban population. The list of 98 smart cities include 98 cities, including 13 cities from Uttar Pradesh and 12 from Tamil Nadu. Other cities include 10 from Maharashtra, 7 from Madhya Pradesh , 3 each from Bihar & Andhra Pradesh.
