Sunil Chhetri Named 2014 AIFF Player of the Year

Indian national team captain Sunil Chhetri was declared ‘AIFF Player of the Year’ for the third time in four years while Bala Devi has been declared the ‘Woman Player of the Year’. Sandesh Jhingan, who played for Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL), was declared the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’.


Raghubar Das Sworn In As First Non-tribal CM of Jharkhand

BJP leader Raghubar Das on 28 December was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand, becoming the first non-tribal leader to rule a state, which was carved out in 2000 of Bihar, to serve the tribal and reserved constituencies. Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at oath taking ceremony held at Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Ranchi, Jharkhand.


Ankita Raina Won Maiden ITF singles Title

India’s Ankita Raina has won her maiden 25,000 US Dollar ITF singles title. In the finals she defeated Katy Dunne from Britain by score of 6-2, 6-2 held at Deccan Gymkhana in Pune, Maharashtra. She also became the first Indian to clinch the title in the tournament after 14 years.
