China – India Hold Border Talks

On 28 June China and India held their 16th round of border talks in Beijing.State Councilor and Special Representative Yang Jiechi and Indian National Security Adviser and Special Representative Shiv Shankar Menon attended the boundary talks, exchanging ideas for solving border problems and developing bilateral relations.The China-India special representative mechanism was established in 2003 and serves as an important platform for solving border disputes between both sides.


Former Union Minister Bhavna Chikhalia Died
Former Union minister of state and the first woman to get elected to the Lower House (Lok Sabha) from Gujarat for four consecutive terms, Bhavna Chikhalia died on 28 June.She was union minister of state for tourism, culture and parliamentary affairs from 1998-2003 in the NDA government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee. She was also the chairperson of the Railway Convention Committee from 1999-02.Bhavnaben Chikhalia first got elected to the Lok Sabha from 1991, before registering victories again in 1996, 1998 and 1999.


Koneru Humpy Won FIDE Womens Grand Prix
On 28 June Koneru Humpy won the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix chess tournament at Dilijan, Armenia.Koneru Humpy finished her campaign with a flourish, defeated Mongolia’s Tuvshintugs Batchimeg in the final .Slovenia’s Anna Muzychuk finished second and Georgia’s  Nana Dzagnidze finished third.


Indian Army Appointed First Woman ADC To A Commander

On 28 June Lieutenant Ganeve Lalji–a young intelligence officer–is set to create history by becoming the first woman to be appointed as a key aide to an Army Commander as part of Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh’s efforts to provide more avenues to women in the force.She will become the Aide-De-Camps (ADC) of Central Army Commander Lt Gen Rajan Bakshi, who will be taking over his post in Lucknow in north India.ADCs are officers who serve as a personal assistant of top officers including the Army Chief and Army Commanders.
