India Ranked 105th On Human Capital Index
“The World Economic Forum (WEF) on 28 June released the Human Capital Report 2016. The WEF prepared the report in collaboration with Mercer, an American global human resource and related financial services consulting firm. India occupied the 105th position among the 130 countries surveyed in the Index. In the Asia-Pacific region, it is placed behind Sri Lanka (50), China (71), Indonesia (72), Iran (85), Bhutan (91) and Bangladesh (104). India has secured 62nd, 98th, 106th, 119th and 120th position in the 0 to 14, 15 to 24, 25 to 54, 55 to 64, and 65 and Over categories respectively. Finland, Norway and Switzerland hold the top three positions, utilising around 85 per cent of their human capital.”
Nagaland Launches Sakhi-One Stop Centre
Nagaland Government has launched women helpline “181” and “Sakhi-One Stop Centre”, an institute that supports women affected by violence. It was launched by the state Governor P B Acharya at the District Hospital Dimapur in Nagaland. The helpline and centre aim to provide integrated assistance including medical, legal and psychological counselling to women affected by violence. The ‘Sakhi-One Stop Centre’ is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) to be funded through Nirbhaya Fund.
NS Vishwanathan Appointed as Deputy Governor of RBI
NS Vishwanathan has been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 28 June 2016. NS Vishwanathan will shall have term will be for three years and will succeed Harun R Khan, who will superannuates on July 7, 2016 on turning 62.Prior to this appointment, Vishwanathan was executive director in the RBI since April 2014. He was oversing banking and non-banking regulation departments. Earlier he had served as Principal Chief General Manager in the Department of non-banking supervision at RBI.
Naga Rebel Leader Isak Chishi Swu Died
Naga leader and founder of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM), Isak Chisi Swu passed away on 28 June in Delhi. He was 86. As a Naga leader he had led one of the worst insurgencies in the North-East India for almost three decades. Isak Chishi Swu, who belonged to the Sumi tribe, hailed from Nagaland’s Zunheboto district. In the 1950s, Swu joined the Naga National Council (NNC) and served in various capacities in the organisation. Opposed to the Shillong Accord signed by the then NNC with the Centre, he formed the NSCN-IM in 1980. He was considered as the main person behind Naga peace pact (Framework Agreement) signed with Union Government in August 2015 to find a permanent solution to the vexed Naga issue.
